Focusing As Deep Listening (4)

Curiosity: Allowing something new to emerge

This is session # 4 of 5 of Focusing As Deep Listening.

In this session we explore what it feels like to stay with the felt sense: What happens in your body when you allow an inner sense to emerge without rushing to words or judgments.

Video 2 (1 min)

Practice

Practice with a partner: Take turns gently speaking and listening, with pauses and slow attention.
Or practice alone: Silently bring awareness inward and notice what you sense in your body as you think about a topic.

Specifically:

  • Take a couple of minutes before you begin to settle your body and notice your breath.
  • Choose a topic or situation you’ve been thinking about.
  • Slow down your inner pace — not just your words, but your attention.
  • As you pause, gently notice any bodily sensation you feel: warmth, tension, openness, tightness, etc.
  • If nothing obvious arises, that is also part of the experience — just notice without judgment.

Reflecting

After your practice, notice:
– What surprised you?
– Where did your attention tend to go?
– What bodily sensations did you feel?
– Did anything subtle shift as you slowed down?
