Procrastination need not be laziness: Jennifer Tantia

Many of us treat procrastination as laziness or a personal failing. But what if it’s your nervous system doing exactly what it’s designed to do? Psychotherapist Jennifer Tantia shares a personal story revealing an everyday freeze response in real time. Together, we explore how fear registers in the body, why insight alone won’t thaw a freeze response, and how curiosity leads us from self-criticism to compassion.

Jennifer Tantia, PhD is an educator, author and somatic psychotherapist practicing in New York City for the past 18 years. She served on 2 national boards and as adjudicator for the NEA grants for Arts in Healthcare. Her latest book, The Art and Science of Embodied Research Design (2021) received a distinguished Marion Chace Foundation publisher’s grant. Dr. Tantia has taught somatic psychotherapy to therapists throughout the US, Europe and Asia; currently teaching somatic psychology doctoral students in the Research Psychology department at California Institute of Integral studies.
